Kyle Middleton took out X Trial on Saturday the 18th by the narrowest of margins. Middleton was tied with Colin Zarczynski leading into the final race but slipped through for the win.
“This was the hardest win I’ve ever had”, said Middleton. “I never felt 100% and struggled to find a rhythm in the technical sections, Colin really put the pressure on all the way.” Zarczynski rode very consistently and managed to take advantage of Middleton not getting through the Massive Titan Tyres section.
They both lost no penalties on the Waco Kwikform Scaffold they were equal on 11 points going into the final race. Middleton was fast out of the blocks for the final race, then on the turn upon the Wizz Binz Skips, Colin slipped off and Kyle cleared off for the win.
2000 spectators watched on as the best riders fought it out minus a few early exits. WA #1 and event organiser Neil Price, had to pull out due to illness on the morning of the event. Victoria’s Trevor Campbell, had a very unfortunate fall in practice and hitting his head and neck, whilst stepping off the bike in the Scaffold section. He was taken into hospital for observation as he has had a previous back injury. Two reserve riders were called in at last minutes notice, giving local WA young guns, Craig Austin and Jake Follini-Kearns the opportunity to ride at the highest level.
“The event really went Fantastically well,” said organizer Neil Price. “We have had 2000 people come and have a look at a totally new and unique thing for Australia and they loved it. The audience was on the edge of their seat the whole night and we have had a huge positive response. We are definitely coming back to Perth next year.”
