Motorcycling Western Australia’s Volunteer of the Year Awarded

This year’s Motorcycling Western Australia’s Volunteer of the Year award was presented to Justin Shepherd from the Cranbrook and Districts Motocross Club.
Following a very strong list of 12 nominations submitted by their clubs, Justin was selected by the MWA board for his exceptional dedication to the construction of the new motocross facility at Sukey Hill, Cranbrook.

As the newly elected president of the club, Justin lead by example by building the initial track in just eight days (yes not a misprint – eight days) for it to be ready for a round of the South West Interclub series. Since then Justin has spent every weekend bar two working on the Greg Moss designed track.

In addition, Justin and his committee have worked with the local council to raise significant funds to construct the track, clubrooms and other infrastructure to ensure the new track at Sukey Hill becomes the benchmark in Western Australia.

President Peter Clark said of Justin’s efforts “This has been an enormous effort, and while we acknowledge that there are many others that contribute to the building and running of a club, that extra effort by an individual is inspiring to others”.

Justin, who is more of a doer and worker than a talker said of his Volunteer of the Year Award- "Receiving this award which the majority of the Cranbrook Districts MCC committee and members deserve as a whole - there are a few key people who have pushed and supported me and I think we have built a great venue together. People have been envious of our shire support and I am thankful for the backing from the Cranbrook Shire. This MWA volunteer award - against great nominations, has given me the confidence and recognition from my peers that I'm doing a reasonable job in my role. Get down to Cranbrook and check out our track we are only 3 hours from Perth!"
