Thanks to the Regional Athlete Travel Subsidy Scheme, 209 talented young athletes will receive a total of $105,055 as a way to ease the financial burden on families as they aspire to represent WA.
The subsidy offsets out-of-pocket travel and accommodation costs associated with attending eligible training camps and competitions within the sport's official talent development pathway at a regional, State and national level.
Supported athletes must be registered members with a club or association that is affiliated with a State Sporting Association, and between 13 to 21 years of age.
In this round, funding has gone to athletes in sports including netball, cycling, basketball, speed skating, orienteering, roller skating, football, cricket, karting, hockey, rugby league, volleyball, touch football, squash, BMX and equestrian.
The next round opens on March 12, 2018 and closes on April 13, 2018.

Comments attributed to Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray:
"The Regional Athlete Travel Subsidy Scheme helps up-and-coming athletes overcome the tyranny of distance and other hurdles that country athletes face.
"We hope these subsidies go some way towards helping regional families cover the cost of competitions which they might otherwise not be able to afford.
"All Western Australian athletes deserve a fair chance to reach their sporting potential – and these grants provide crucial financial assistance to country sportspeople and their families."
