The weather gods turned on the perfect conditions yesterday for Round 3 of the 2018 Make Smoking History Senior State Motocross Series on the Hendley Park Circuit, Byford – Home to the Lightweight Motorcycle Club. A bit of a chill in the early morning air but wow!
Racing was fast, furious, bar banging, elbow bashing motocross action around the Hendley Park circuit. There were thrills, there were a few spills and the crowd were treated to high class racing throughout the day.
The Make Smoking History Amateur Cup Class made it’s second appearance and although only 16 riders lining up on the gate – the boys had a great time on the circuit. This was their last hardpack track so they made the most of it – next time out will be in the sand at Bunbury. Jaxon Turner was again the winner on the day, from Fletcher Stubbs in 2nd place and Spencer Astwood rounded out the podium in 3rd place. Their Mini Series Standings haven’t changed too much with Jaxon leading on 207 points, Cheyne 35 points behind on 172 points and Spencer another 6 points behind with 166 points.
The “Planet Honda MX1 Championship” – numbers were down due to a few injuries and a 9 week break between rounds but this class were on fire. Jayden Rykers made an appearance and kept David Birch on his toes all day long. Josh Adams was in top gear although just coming back from an injury incurred at Round 1 and the action was high flying, very, very fast. Michael Mahon had a get off in heat 2 and did not re-appear for the remainder of the day. In the end, Jayden took 1st place from David Birch in 2nd and Josh Adams a very smiley 3rd placegetter. The Championship Standings have shuffled slightly but David is sitting at the top on 297 points from Charlie Creech in 2nd, 258 points (41 behind) and Stevie Heilers has moved into 3rd on 226 points.
Youngster Mat Fabry again was dominant in the “Motul/Pirelli MX2 Championship” but Mitchell Outram and Billy Middleton kept up the pressure in each and every race. Again numbers were down for this round but all riders gave it there all. So much so that Codey Rowe had a mishap on the final turn in Heat 1 and he threw himself down the start straight leaving his bike behind. Mixed fortunes were had all round all day long and Mat took the day from Mitchell in 2nd and Billy taking 3rd and the Championship standings are similar with Mat in 1st, Billy 2nd and Mitchell in 3rd place.
Fresh from their National Round held a few weeks ago at Manjimup, the Cullys Yamaha Women’s Championship ladies did not disappoint. Again Tahlia O’Hare was on her A Game and took the day from an impressive Kara Cats and Lily Kent stepped up for 3rd place. The Championship ladder reads the same but Chelsea Blakers is waiting to pounce. For the next round we are heading the Chelsea Territory so watch out!!
There was action aplenty in the “Brutum Logistics Quad Championship” with Luke Gaisford making up for a disappointing round 2. Luke and Chris Bosnakis battled all day long with Luke coming out the winner by 1 point from Chris and Blake Croonen for 3rd place. Their Championship table has been shuffled around somewhat and Chris Bosnakis leads on 299 points from Luke Gaisford on 236 points and Joel Mortimer also sits on 236 points. The action is heating up big time and be prepared for all wheels blazing at Round 4.
We now head for sand territory at Shrubland Park, Bunbury – home of the Bunbury Motorcycle Club on 22nd July 2018 and our Veterans and Masters Championships will re-join us. THIS IS OUR “PINK” ROUND in support of BREAST CANCER – SO DRESS FOR THE OCCASION!!
