Connor Extends Championship Lead

Over the weekend Bee Firm NRG/Yamaha rider Jared Connor took on the terrain of Capel in the states south west, for the third round of the West Australian Enduro Championships where he put his YZ250FX firmly on the top step of the E1 podium. Connor who has won all three rounds to this point is the defending E1 Champion and does not look like surrendering his number one position anytime soon.

Capel is located two and a half hours south of Perth near Bunbury and the area had just the right amount of rain during the week to make the trails perfect. With cloudy skies but no rain the field got away with Connor on the third minute with the quicker riders.

With trail times that were not too tight, most of the field made it easily to the checkpoints and time penalties were not an issue unlike the previous round which were extremely tight leaving riders scrambling to just fuel their bikes let alone themselves.

The state forest in the area is a good mix of hard pack gravel with wash aways, sandy trail, logs and rock outcrops that all prove challenging in their own right. Clocking the fastest E1 times in every special test stage Connor was able to clinch top spot and increase his lead in the championship.

“Today was a good day as I felt great on the bike. I ride this area quite a bit and I suppose it helped as I felt right at home for the entire event” Connor said.

“My YZ250FX is just perfect for this terrain as it provides good usable power in every situation. The trail was just awesome as it had enough rain meaning there was no dust and traction was perfect and not too muddy”

“I knocked back a couple of Bee Firm’s to keep my energy level at a peak which worked well as each lap was around the two hour mark including the specials and any advantage you have over the competition is invaluable”

“Jared rode well today which was Yamaha’s 63rd birthday and he was able to give them a fitting present with an overall win” Commented team manager Peter Strickland.

“I don’t think you could have got better conditions to race in as the rain held off and though it was overcast the temperature was just right for riding. It is good for him to be able to keep his momentum going and hopefully win all the rounds to clean sweep the class and retain his title”
