Quad MX champion Luke Gaisford was recently named Senior Sports Star of the Year at the City of Rockingham Sports Star Awards gala at the Gary Holland Community Centre.
Gaisford, the 2017 ATV national champion and a member of the Australian ATV Quad Cross of Nations team, beat Rockingham-Mandurah cricketer Dane Ugle, triathlete Steve Ware and Rockingham Flames star Maddison Allen to claim the prestigious award.
More than 100 guests were in attendance at the Gary Holland Community Centre for the 22nd annual Sports Star Awards , which acknowledged the people and clubs who have shown outstanding efforts in their chosen sport.
All award nominees and winners shared more than $15,000 worth of prizes.
City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels saluted the contribution of the 28 finalists and seven winners at the awards.
“Sport is a vital element in creating a physically and mentally healthy community and the Sports Star Awards are a fantastic opportunity to recognise the athletes, clubs and volunteers who excel in their chosen sports,” Mayor Sammels said.
Sammels said the awards provided an important opportunity for the community to recognise residents who were excelling in their respective sports.
“The City’s Sports Star Awards have marked an annual celebration of outstanding achievement within the local sporting community since 1997,” Mayor Sammels said.
“Over the years the awards have recognised local, state, national and international calibre champions from across the City.
“As usual, the competition for this year’s awards was fierce, and those who have been selected as finalists, from a wide variety of sports, should be immensely proud of themselves and their clubs.”
“We are fortunate to have an active sporting community that thrives on the local, state, national and international sporting stage and I congratulate all of this year’s finalists and winners on their efforts.
