Late last year MWA provided an overview of changes to the “occupational health & safety” laws in Western Australia and the introduction of the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 that now includes volunteers as “workers” for the purpose of this legislation. A copy of the original advice is attached.
All MWA Club Committees and affiliates are reminded of their obligations to ensure that as far as reasonably practicable, “workplace” risk is identified, and suitable health and safety measures are put in place to eliminate or minimise those risks.
The relevant legislation is now in place and this email is a timely reminder to raise awareness on ensuring safety of our volunteers who support us and help our sport happen.
