Whilst the season might be winding down in some places, there is no such thing at Lightweight Motorcycle Club in Byford. Having just completed the motocross season, the club is now in the process of preparing for the much anticipated second part of the arenacross season.
As the only club in WA with both a motocross track and an arenacross track, Lightweight MCC is planning on putting on no less than seven more events before the end of the year, ranging from Wednesday Practice nights to their annual ArenaX Open event on December first.
First up will be a Go Moto event on Saturday October 14th, an event which the club is very excited to host, as it is a great opportunity for riders of all ages and abilities to come and try out the arenacross track.
Anyone from nippers to vets, recreational riders and racers alike can ride on the day! There is no need to be a member of the club and for those who may not have a current MWA licence, one day licences will be available to purchase.
The event is being organised to be a fun-filled and sociable day, where riders can ride in a low- pressure environment, meet new people and learn more about LWMCC. Given the location of Byford, it is also a great way to get a group of mates together for a day of riding, without having to go too far!
For the racers amongst us, the Go Moto is also an additional chance to get a ride in on the track, prior to the upcoming club runs- the Club Championship Series of 2018 is still very much anyone’s game, so extra time on the track can only be a good thing. For riders with an eye to entering the Ax Open, the Go Moto is a golden opportunity to shake off those cobwebs!
The canteen will be open and will offer a limited menu, so that anyone in need of a delicious snack or drink can satisfy their cravings and the club will have their designated membership person available in the morning to assist with any queries you may have about membership.
More information about the Go Moto can be found on Lightweight’s Facebook page- where you can also direct message the page if you have any specific queries. Gates open at 7am, with sign on between 7:15-8:30, followed by a rider’s brief and riding starts at 9am! Please be prepared to supply a flaggie on the day.

More about the Lightweight Club
Lightweight Motorcycle Club welcomes riders of all ages from pee-wee, juniors, seniors, one day license holders and vets across all associated classes to ride at our club.
Being a member at Lightweight MCC club isn’t just about racing but the fantastic social community they have.
Numerous events are held each year including Arenacross under lights, Motocross club point’s days, open events (Junior & Senior) and State Motocross Championship rounds (Junior and Senior).
The Lightweight committee and clubs members are constantly working to improve and upgrade their tracks and open their track up for coaching clinics with a variety of coaches. The club also promotes a family atmosphere and has great viewing for spectators and family members.
The Lightweight Motorcycle club was founded in 1952.
From 1974 Don Hendly allowed motocross events to be conducted on his property just outside Byford on the South West Highway.
Sadly he passed on in 1980 and the property was then acquired by the Pioneer Quarry Group. Negotiations with them saw Landcorp take over the management of the land. In 1990 the then club President Ron Deadman arranged to have the property transferred from landcorp and vested with the Serpentine Shire council to be gazetted as a Motorcycle Off-road Facility for the Lightweight Motorcycle Club.
All past, present members and any competitor who has competed at the venue acknowledge the generosity of the Late Don Hendley and all members will remember this now and in the future for the gift he has left them all.
